![]() I'm not sure what you paid for your Boca bearings, but $30 for six abec7 bearings seemed cheap compared to what I have seen most going for. After listening to this I went home and bought six abec7 bearings for $30 from a Chinese seller. He went on about how much improved the casting on his reels were with the Abec7 bearings, and then informed me that all these bearings are bought from the same place (China) and you can save a bunch of money by skipping the middle man and just buying straight from China. Upon meeting him he promptly pulled some reels out of his car and showed me their exceptionally long free spool spinning. However, what I would be most interested in is how much differently Boca Abec 7 bearings perform vs cheaper Chinese Abec 7 bearings?Įarlier this year I sold a Curado 200dhsv to a gentlemen on Craigslist. Granted, I haven't tested this myself to see if it is true or not. From what I have gathered (reading forums and asking around) is that they don't really make you cast farther as much as they allow you to cast the same distance with far less effort. I've heard plenty of arguments for and against Abec 7 bearings. If there's a better way to build a mouse trap I'm the one who's going to find it. There's only so many manufacturers and variables that I can throw into the mix before the results are self-defeating. Is it going to be more dependent on various other factors? Dunno. Yeah based on what I'd seen on YouTube - not to mention my short experience was that they may be some better, but at what cost for what gain? When I performed the suggestions, per Jeff the results were dramatic. I don't have a dog in this fight - except to find out best bang for the buck. Yes I'm going to clip out the dead time, but the casts measurements, and results will not be altered. You can alter facts but you can't alter uncut video. That's exactly why I'm going to be spending several thousand dollars for a professional filming / editing crew to document the outcome. Problem is all I've seen and heard until now are rumors, speculation, and opinions. The entire process will be filmed.Ĭome on I know you have your thoughts - share them! Anything that you can think of to ensure that this experiment remains on a level playing field (no pun intended) - OK maybe a little pun intended, but I want this to be serious, fair and accurate as possible for all.īoca has been good enough to supply quite a few bearing for testing, but the end result is going to be the unvarnished truth. What I'd greatly appreciate from any of you is your opinion(s), experience(s), and any other ideas that may keep this from becoming a finger pointing exercise. I've gained usage and filming permission from the local school board to use the football field. But when I arrive home the following week - assuming the environmental conditions are acceptable I'm going to let it rip. And I have an early morning flight out Monday. Unfortunately this weekend was so windy that I wasn't going to consider it. My party package arrived on Friday with the remaining bearings. Bear in mind that was with a 3oz sinker on a 10000 spool. ![]() Call me crazy, but I consider that significant. So I went from a casting distance of 120-140 feet to somewhere near 900 feet. OK not really but I cast over the tops of 2 (BIG) trees 3 houses down the road. So I disassembled the 2 completed removed the seals, used alcohol in an ultrasonic cleaner for 30 minutes, cleaned the bearing insert, and let 'er rip. He also suggested running my bearings buck naked - no lube, and no seals. It outcast the Boca's by 20-40 feet! Holy $4!t! I spoke to Jeff at Boca, and we were both in agreement that the comparisons should be made by a single reel of each category. Noticeable improvement but that much money? I got a 3rd 10000CL that was like new - only 20+ years old with some pretty tarry grease in it. When I rebuilt my first 2 10000CL's, I used the ABEC7 Orange seals. So this isn't going to be forensically accurate, but it's going to be better than replacing bearings and spinning an empty spool. Line - mono / braid, as well as manufacturer. You can argue variables to the cows come home. Obviously with this discipline, there is no absolute science to the outcome. Problem is I'm one of these really un-American people who likes cold hard facts. I've watched YouTubes, ad nauseum showing reels with the bearing replaced with Boca's and the dramatic difference in free spool spin time. I know I'm probably opening a can of worms here but all I've heard is how good, or how not so much better Boca's are from stock. I'll be doing 5 casts each with 4 different weights appropriate for the reel size. I've been in extensive contact with them and have decided on 4 reel formats: 1 of my refurbished 10000CL's, a 7000 CS Pro Rocket, a Morrum M3600C, and a Revo STX-SHS. I'm going to conduct some rather intensive testing with Boca Orange Seal ABEC7 ceramic bearings vs.

Watching him on television as a child helped me maintain my passion for weather even when other kids made fun of me for it. It was a common sentiment to hear that he helped spark that love of weather in someone whose passion for it is as strong as ever today. Upon news of his death, meteorologists and weather geeks flooded social media with condolences and memories of what he meant to them watching him on television and working alongside him in person. He helped attract people to the field of meteorology itself. Schwartz’s smooth presentation style did more than just attract viewers. Always addressing you as his friend, he could seamlessly weave forecasts, facts, and humor together to keep you informed and entertained like few others can accomplish. While Cantore is energetically nerdy-remember his pure, unfiltered joy at experiencing thundersnow six times in one night?-Schwartz’s style was more subdued and laid back, but effective just the same. Much like his colleague Jim Cantore, Schwartz’s widespread appeal was his infectious love for the weather. If you’re not familiar with Dave Schwartz, a quick search on YouTube will bring up dozens of entertaining video clips from his years at the network, including one recently when he asked viewers to send him pizza at the studio for Pi Day on March 14. When I briefly met Schwartz during a visit to their Atlanta headquarters a few months after his return, The Weather Channel’s president told me that bringing him back was one of the best decisions they’d ever made. After years of viewer feedback-including a website called “ Bring Back Dave Schwartz”-the network rehired him in the spring of 2014. Shortly after NBC/Comcast bought The Weather Channel in 2008, Schwartz was one of a handful of longtime on-camera meteorologists who were laid off in a shakeup that sought to send the network in a new direction. Rogers says his ultimately successful application letter was titled “10 reasons why Dave Schwartz should be the next on-camera meteorologist for The Weather Channel.” He began working as an assistant in the newsroom in the mid-1980s-a job he got by insisting he’d clean the bathrooms for free if that’s what it took to work there-and made his way on camera after years of persistent effort. Bailey Rogers, a communications specialist for The Weather Channel, recently detailed Schwartz’s rise to on-camera meteorologist during the early years of the network. Schwartz started appearing regularly on The Weather Channel in 1991, quickly becoming one of the most popular meteorologists to work for the network. ![]() You were his friend, and he didn’t just tell you the weather every minute he spent in front of the camera was his opportunity to personally guide you through whatever weather events lie ahead. Dave Schwartz was one of the few television meteorologists who mastered the talent of commanding his time on camera by having a personal conversation with tens of thousands of people at once. If you’ve watched The Weather Channel at any point over the past couple of decades, you’ve heard his friendly voice at least once. But when you’re deeply in love with the world around you and the sky above you, who do you look up to? For many of us young weather geeks, one of those people was The Weather Channel’s Dave Schwartz, who died on July 30 at the age of 63 after battling three bouts of cancer over the last decade. Through the 60's and early 70's, he recorded a series of albums with the producer Creed Taylor, including „Bossa Nova“ (1962) and „Jazz Samba Encore“ (1963). He wrote music for the soundtrack of the 1966 movie „The Gentle Rain,“ and built a reputation in the United States that was not equaled in his homeland. Bonfa lived in New York with his second wife, Maria Helena Toledo, performing and writing, often working in the late 1960's with the Brazilian keyboardist and composer Eumir Deodato, whose passage to New York was paid for by Mr. He stayed on in New York, living in hotels and returning to Brazil for a few months a year. Bonfa appeared at a historic bossa nova concert at Carnegie Hall, performing ''Manha de Carnaval,'' which was the best-known song of the evening. He returned to Brazil in 1959, when bossa nova was in its ascendancy. Bonfa worked with Mary Martin, the Broadway singer, accompanying her on a solo tour. The film's soundtrack also included work by Jobim and Vinicius da Moraes. Better known to English-speakers as „A Day in the Life of a Fool“ and „Orpheus' Samba“ after the movie came out in 1959, they became some of the most widely recorded and performed Brazilian songs of the bossa nova era. Bonfa played guitar on the soundtrack recording for what would be „Black Orpheus.“ „Manha de Carnaval“ and „Samba de Orfeu“ were the two compositions he offered to the film's director, Marcel Camus. ![]() ![]() He was already well known in Brazil when he left for New York in 1957. Bonfa quit the group in 1953 to work alone, mostly as a songwriter and guitarist. The group performed on Brazil's Radio Nacional in 1946 and was somewhat successful. In the late 1940's, he joined a vocal group called the Quitandinha Serenaders, named after the Quitandinha Hotel in Petropolis, a town near Rio. He studied with the Uruguayan guitarist Isaias Savio. Clearly Jobim's songwriting contributions - 'So Danco Samba,' 'How Insensitive,' and 'O Morro Nao Tem Vez' - would have the longest shelf life, and though the album didn't sell as well as its two predecessors, it certainly helped break these tunes into the permanent jazz repertoire. Getz injects more high-wailing passages into his intuitive affinity for the groove, even going for some fast bop on 'Un Abraco No Getz,' and Bonfá takes adept care of the guitar solos against Jobim's rock-steady rhythm. Two bona fide giants, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Luiz Bonfá (who gets co-billing), provide the guitars and all of the material, and Maria Toledo contributes an occasional throaty vocal. Thus, the soft-focused grooves are considerably more attuned to what was actually coming out of Brazil at the time. Why bother blocking foreign traffic? Streaming services, in particular, must also follow distribution laws that dictate which countries and regions can access certain content. YouTube video unavailable due to geo-restrictions Also known as ”geo-restriction,” this type of block is common on streaming services such as Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video, and more. Many websites block traffic from entire countries or regions. For example, if you live in a country without censorship and aren’t using a work or school network, then any blocks you experience are likely coming from your ISP. However, some ISPs may also restrict access to safeguard their own interests.īut how do you know if your ISP is behind a block? While it isn’t always easy to tell, you can usually conclude that a block is from an ISP if you can’t access a website on an otherwise unrestricted network. One common reason is that these blocks can be a valuable add-on service meant to safeguard your browsing experience. Many Internet users aren’t even aware that they’re being blocked by their ISP. Simply switching DNS servers can even bypass some ISP blocks. In contrast to government-level “hard blocks,” ISP “soft blocks” are typically easier to bypass with VPNs, proxies, and other methods. While the reasons for ISP blocks can vary, they’re usually meant to prevent web traffic that could violate local laws or the provider’s terms of service. While not nearly as common as the other types of blocks we’ve discussed so far, many users face blocks from their Internet service provider (ISP). However, some users can get by using proxies and other methods. VPNs are usually the best way to bypass government blocks. No matter the country, however, the blocks are usually the same, with government networks filtering web traffic based on URLs and host IP addresses. Of course, China is far from the only country that restricts its citizens’ Internet access. However, this hasn’t stopped them: 29 % of Internet users in China bypass blocks with a VPN. The intention of the firewall is to block foreign websites and cross-border traffic that go against China’s constitution and censorship objectives.īecause of the Great Firewall, China’s population of nearly 1.5 billion people can’t access popular websites such as Google and Facebook. One of the most famous examples of a government block is the “Great Firewall” of China, which was quickly implemented after the Internet first arrived in the country in the early 1990s. As a result, many governments restrict access to websites that share embarrassing or incriminating information about past events. The exact answer may vary, but it all boils down to a common trend: Governments have a vested interest in preserving their reputation among their citizens. ✅ Click to Tweet It’s Blocked by the GovernmentĪs we mentioned at the beginning of this article, most of the world’s population faces a block imposed by governments. Blocked websites are an unfortunate reality of the online world □ Thankfully, there are tons of handy tools and methods for bypassing blocks and accessing restricted content. If the address is on the blocklist, it restricts access and blocks you.Ī common way around these blocks is to reroute your browsing through a third party, such as a proxy or virtual private network (VPN). That means whenever you enter an address into your browser - the network compares this address to its blocklist. Usually, your school or work network blocks websites by URL. As a result, they place heavy blocks on certain kinds of websites, such as social networks and online games. The reasoning is pretty easy to guess: Schools and workplaces have a vested interest in keeping students and employees productive.
